Describe a place . . .

It's a soft yellow-dressed afternoon and I find myself sitting. Just sitting. Here on this weather-worn wooden bridge, if you can even call it a bridge. There's something about these splintered slabs of old wood cascaded over this little stream that calls me back when I come to my hometown. The stream gets lower each time I visit, but you can still hear it trickle over the many rocks and pebbles below.

As I glance up, I am surrounded by earth and trees. Big, bold trees that say, "Hey! We've been here for who knows how many years and there's nothin' you can do about it! We are here to stay." Their leafy branches reach across the stream as they try to touch their tree lover on the other side. The sun peaks through the lover's embrace and the rays spill out over this green-brown earth, calling me back and grounding me to my roots.

I can see the flowers and gardens of the local neighbors that are so well tended and cared for, but I also see the wily and scraggly weeds and flowers unkempt by this bridge and broken earth. This place has been here for me as a safe-haven, a place to commune with nature, and speak with God. Here I can feel completely comfortable but also surprisingly vulnerable. It is many miles away this little heaven on Earth and several months since I've visited, but writing about it brings it here, close to my heart.

Earth Day!

What do you do at the beginning of finals week when you have no motivation to study for your last BYU finals ever, your roommate has a box full of new, lovely chalk and the weather is just too good to pass up?

Why chalk a beautiful picture (MJ inspired) with your best friend of course!!

And since it's Earth day today I thought I'd give you a taste of what we drew. You're welcome.

In honor of all you BYU grads today ;)

Heal the world, make it a better place.~MJ

good news

My favorite thing every six months is having the opportunity to listen to the inspired words and counsel from our Prophets and Apostles. Last weekend was General Conference and it was truly inspiring. I know that their words come from the Lord and are the things He wants us to hear now.

Also one of my most favorite people in the world is serving a mission on Temple Square in Salt Lake and she has been asked to blog about her experiences there for the church. This is her blog: http://sisterharris.blogspot.com/ or you can check it out here!

“By small and simple things are great things brought to pass . . . And by very small means the Lord . . . bringeth about the salvation of many souls” (Alma 37:6–7).

If you still happen to be reading . . .

Here is a sweet note from one of my blessed little 4th graders whom I said goodbye to yesterday
(It was paired with some passion fruit lip gloss, might I add):

Let's hope that the 2nd graders at my new school think so because starting in August, they will be mine for 10 whole months!

That's right. You are now reading the blog of the newest 2nd grade Intern. This is so unreal.

I'm still alive!

Hey it's been a while! For the last 30 minutes I've been scribbling in my journal and jotting down all the wonders of life, all the workings of my heart. I began writing some of it here to share, but . . . somehow I feel like that would spoil it. Instead I'll give you a little taste of today.

Things I felt today:

tender mercies. Lively!
Empowered. Purposeful.
ALIVE. present. grateful.
Certain.

Things I did today:
*Got my practicum placements. 4th grade, baby!
*Went to class :)
*Went to the BYU Devo and got my spiritual socks rocked off! (You'll probs be able to find and listen to it here in a couple of days. Elder Kikuchi is the man!)
*Turned in my Internship Application. Scary.
*Made a HUGE decision about the future. Gah!
*Bought a new journal. Mmmm.
*Went to work with some cool peeps.
*Had "just a salad" for dinner (haha! Seinfeld anyone?)

New favorite scripture that I read today:
Jacob 3:2 "O all ye that are pure in heart, lift up your heads and receive the pleasing word of God, and fest upon his love; for ye may, if your minds are firm, forever."

Things I am procrastinating on and will begin as soon as I click "Publish Post:"
Homework

peace and blessings,

sending it all to Him

"Turn to the Lord. Exercise all of the faith you have in Him. Let Him share your burden. Allow His grace to lighten your load."
